To Read or Not to Read One day, one week, one month or one year. Time still passes by. Thoughts, Emotions, Fears, Pains, Joys, Hopes, all flutter past. One Moment, One LifeA Page from My Life Monday, April 07, 2008
Talk about drama at the beginning of the week!
Today started off like any other monday except for the fact that I was late. I was supposed to meet Nadia and Amirah for breakfast at Mcdonalds at 7.30am. I left the house at 7.25am, rushing like mad to the MRT station. Got on the 7.45am train and settled into my psp game. It was like a normal routine day until the train was approaching Choa Chu Kang MRT station at aroun 8.10am. I was in the first cabin as usual. The train just entered the station when there was a loud BANG and I felt something roll under the train cabin. As the train came to a screeching halt, a sick feeling came over me. The driver's voice came over the announcement "There has been an accident, sorry for any inconvienence caused". I guessed immediately what happened but the faces of those on the platform cleared any doubts I had. The people on the platform had the look of shock plastered onto their faces. I saw a girlfriend burying her head into her boyfriend's chest in fear. The cabin lights went off and there was a period or ten minutes where everyone was in limbo about our futures. Then the MRT personal came and opened each door, one by one, and asked us to evacuate the train. I exited and realised that only four cabins were on the platform so they couldn't open all the doors normally. The platform was so crowded, I could barely move bacause of the sea of people. Some were still dazed, others looked annoyed, some were calling people on their phones and began their frenzy, most probably trying to re-count what had just happened to the person on the other line. I myself felt like I wasn't me anymore. Like because of the the deviation from my normal day I had stepped out of my own life. After a few moments I had enough sense to call amirah, who luckily decided to take the bus from toa payoh instead of the train. Next I called Nadia, which turned out to be my saving moment because she immediately asked her dad to pick me up from the Choa Chu Kang. Realising that Andrea was probably leaving her house soon I called her next, but somehow, she had decided to come to school early today so I spent the next few minutes re-counting the event that had just happened. As I walked to the stairs to get out of the station, I realised that the person who had jumped had gone under three cabins before the train came to a stop. The SCDF people were there soon setting up their extracting equipment but I couldn't wait to see. I went out of the station and waited for Nadia's family. As we were driving away from the station, the platform look like a mass of moving trees and plants, all rubbing against each other, trying to fight for the sunlight. We passed Bukit Gombak on the way to school. This time there was a multitude of people exiting the station, many Millennians among them, surely late. Luckily the school understood and no one was caught for late coming today. The whole incident reminded me of the same incident that happedned to me a year ago. It was also a Monday but the station was Woodlands. And it turned out to be an accident, the person falling off the middle of the platform, so the train braked immediately, saving his life. This time the person jumped at the tail of the platform so the driver had no chance to stop. I heard from people who were on the platform that the person who jumped was a young chinese male and that he screamed as the train hit him, shreiking his final shriek. That explains the looks of horror of those on the platform. I imagined what the driver must have seen, the face of a desperate man, giving up the fight to live. This whole incident has reminded me how fragile we are, that at any moment we can be destroyed. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should take chances in life. Live it to the fullest so that at the end of the road we can look back and say "I've truly lived!" Harry, if you're reading this, take a risk. Come up to me and ask to talk, you never know what I might say. But whatever it is, its surely better than regretting a lost friendship. Well, I'd better get back to doing my Project Work. Its due tomorrow. So I'd best be going back to it. Night~ SupremeShaun is sleek and Handsome @ 9:14 pm
